Imphal, January 27:
As observed in other states, the 55th Republic Day Celebration was observed in Manipur yesterday.
The main function was held at the Kangla with Arvind Dave as Chief Guest.
As the Governor reached at saluting base, he inspected the guard of honour presented by first IRB contingent commanded by ASP Nishitkumar Ujabal.
The chief guest then unfurled the national flag.
In this function the chief guest gave away medals to six persons including police and fire services for gallantry, distinguished service.
Later on, the chief guest received salutes given by 48 contingents, Ex-servicemen, CRPF, IRP, AR, Manipur Police, Home Guard, Manipur Fire Service, Excise, NCC, Scout, voluntary organizations, cultural troupes and band contingents took part in the march past.
Besides tableaux of IFCD, Sericulture Department, Electricity Department, Healthy Department and MACS and a power tiller showing the products of Potatoes three vehicles of Manipur Fire Service used for fire were also displayed as a part of the function.
Clay Khongsai, IPS, commandant, Second MR was the parade commander.
Those who get bar and medals for gallantry and distinguished services were Th Krishnatombi, inspector, Imphal east (third bar to police medal for gallantry, Md Yusub Ali, ASI, Imphal west district (Police medal for gallantry) Surchandra Khaidem, fireman and Oken Tongbram, fireman (fire service medal for gallantry) Sanatomba fireman (fire service medal for distinguished service) and Ibohal fireman (fire service medal for meritorious service).
It may be mentioned here that in connection with the celebration, the union government has announed police medals for meritorious services.
They are LM Khaute, IPS DIG (HQ), Anish Dayal, (PS, DIGCR-1) and Kharkha Bahadur, Naik, 7th MR.The periods of two prisoners Lilamohon, Serou I, Th Modujit Uripok Achom Leikai were also reduced to six-months each.
The function was observed in other districts too yesterday.
The DC, Imphal east Y Surchandra as chief guest unfurled the national flag.
The SP of the district officials of various departments attended the function.
For Thoubal district, the day was celebrated at BASU Ground, Khangabok.
P Vaiphei, DC of Thoubal received the salute of MP, Home Guard contingents prizes were also distributed to some selected employees of the district.
In Bishnupur district, the function was held at Bishnupur Mini Secretariat Gound with Aleng AS Shimray, DC of the district as chief guest.
The SDPO IK Muivah was the parade commander of the March pat contingents.
Shri Y Jugindro, DC Ukhrul received the salutes given by 17 contingents at Tangkhul Nagalong ground.
The chief guest as a part of the function distributed 15 bred blankets to village chiefs and elders.
The DC, Tamenglong Shri D Panmei received the salutes of 16 contingents including 35 AR, fifth MR, educational institutions at the function held at Mini Stadium of the district.
The celebration was also held at Mini Stadium Ground, Senapati district HQ yesterday.
Shri T Pamei graced the function as chief guest.
16 contingents including 15 students took part in the march past.
Th SDPO, Senapati and Abdul Jalit, MPS was the parade commander of the contingent.
As a part of the function, a friendly football exhibition between DC II and Senapati district sports assn was held.
The function was held in Chandel district too with AK Sinha, DC of the district as chief guest.
For Moreh, the ADC, Ch Ruhinikumar graced the function as chief guest.
In Chakpikarong and Machi sub-divisions the day was observed.
Shri KK Chhetri, DC of Churachandpur unfurled the National flag.
The SDFO, Thanlon was the parade commander.
Appreciation certificates were given to some select employees of the district.
At Jiribam the ADC took the salute at a function held at the MSRTC ground.
The Chief Minister Shri O Ibobi said, violence, killing among selves will not bring any benefit.
Instead of it, discussion among ourselves, talk should be organized in order to bring welfare for all.
The CM was speaking at a function to thank all those who took part in the 55th Republic Day Celebration yesterday at First Manipur Rifles Ground.
Lauding the participants of different communities sincerely, the chief minister O Ibobi said we are all citizens of an independent land.
We should take great responsibility while preserving our cultures and habits parts.
The government is paying more attention to those parts both for hills and plains which are lagging behind other developed areas.
