Imphal, October 21 2009:
In a significant development, the Gauhati High Court has stayed the probe initiated by the Manipur Human Rights Commission into the July 23 incident in which Ch Sanjit and Th Rabina were killed.
The interim stay was passed in his principal seat by Justice BP Katakey on October 19 .
Passing the interim stay, the Justice asked the Manipur Human Rights Commission to discontinue its inquiry proceedings, said sources, and added that the matter would heard in the first week of November.
MHRC launched an independent investigation following complaints filed by Chinglensana, husband of the slain Th Rabina and one those injured in the incident.
Sources had informed that the probe had entered the final stage and the only thing left was to examine the police officials and the doctors who conducted the autopsy on Rabina and Sanjit.
With the police refusing to co-operate, the MHRC had even issued warrants against some police officers.
