Imphal, December 07:
The Gauhati High Court has issued contempt notice on the Secretary of Manipur Legislative Assembly for defying earlier orders of the Court.
Justice UB Saha in his Imphal bench sitting today issued the contempt notice asking the Assembly Secretary to show cause why contempt proceedings should not be initiated against him under the provisions of the Contempt of Court Act, 1971.The Court made the notice returnable within one month.
The contempt notice followed a petition filed by AK Raginibala Devi, working as a Reporter Grade I in the Assembly Secretariat.
Case dossiers said that the Court had on February 26 this year passed an interim order ruling that one post of Deputy Director in the Assembly Secretariat should not be filled until further orders.
This order came after Raginibala filed a writ petition.
In her favour, another order was passed by the same Court on July 17 directing the respondent again not to fill up the said post.
Despite the two orders of the Court, the Assembly Secretary had on November 24 this year issued an order appointing one Raju Yanglem, Assistant Director, to the post of Deputy Director on promotion basis.
Following this order, Raginibala filed the contempt petition.
Advocate Hemchandra Singh appeared on behalf of the petitioner, AK Raginibala.
