In a historic development, the warring Naga underground factions have agreed to an inter-factional ceasefire for six months starting from today in Kohima.
The representatives from NSCN-IM, NSCN-K and NNC have unanimously resolved to accept and pursue peace amongst all the different groups without any discrimination on the line of tribes or places.
The joint meeting organized by the Joint Forum Working
Committee of Nagaland Gaon Buras Federation and Nagaland Dobashis Association with Naga National groups to maintain peace was held in the Red Cross Conference Hall, Kohima.
Additional Chief Secretary and Commissioner, Government of Nagaland, T N Mannen exhorted around 90 members consisting of GBs and DBs from all the 11 districts of the State and representatives of NSCN-IM, NSCN-K, NNC and the "Unification Core Committee".
Adopting a four-point resolution the factions appreciated the initiative taken by the Joint Forum of GBs and DBs for stopping senseless killing amongst the Nagas.
They also expressed support for further effort to bring real reconciliation to create peaceful atmosphere.
Notably, the Naga factions also agreed to extend the inter-factional ceasefire as proposed by the forum for a period of six months.
The members also decided to organize the next meeting at the earliest to thrash out the difference on unity initiatives.
Later, talking to media-persons, Mannen expressed hope that the factions would not indulge in any killings with immediate effect since the representatives of the factions themselves have agreed to the proposed ceasefire amongst themselves.
General Secretary of Naga National Council (NNC), V Nagi, Kilonser of NSCN-K RM Lotha, a member from "Unification Core Committee" and DT Lincoln, Venizo Zolia, Yanger and Dr P Mor representing NSCN-IM led their respective team consisting of five to seven members each.
They also signed the resolution with Mannen as the witness.
Convenor of the Joint Forum A Taku Longkumer chaired the function while Lungrahei Herie was the session secretary.
President Nagaland DB Association T Siyang Chang tendered the vote of thanks.
