Imphal, June 14 2009:
The All Manipur United Clubs' Organisation (AMUCO) has observed Protest Day today as has been done since 2002 against the divisive policy of the India government.
A statement issued by the Assistant Secretary (Publicity) of AMUCO, Dayanand Chingtham stated that the policy of the India Government to sow the seed of enmity, through the Bangkok declaration on June 14, 2001, among the communities living together in the North East was thwarted.
It stated that the Bangkok declaration was not the first instance where the government played divisive role.
The statement added that the AMUCO has cautiously succeeded to overcome the instigation of communal clashes in Manipur and some parts of the North East in 1992, and signing of agreement by the government on August 1, 1997 with the cooperation of the people.
It added that the day has been commemorated since 2002 by the AMUCO as Protest Day to denounce the divisive policy of the government and to promote integrity.
It also cautions the people to remain alert on discordant policies.
