Imphal, June 14 2009:
Decrying the negligence of State Government, irate locals blocked Laishram Leirak (DC Road), the road that connects Imphal West DC Office complex with Uripok Kangchup Road today.
As the road has not been repaired since past 10 years, the agitating locals said, road mishaps are happening frequently.
They further said that they are compelled to block the road before witnessing any major accident.
Nupisinggi Chaokhat Thourang Lup secretary Abujam Leima threatened to dig the road in the middle if the State Government and concerned MLAs of Lamsang and Uripok A/Cs fail to give positive response at the earliest.
The road is on the margin of the two Assembly segments.
The locals fenced the road and put up placards that read as, 'make dutiful persons as leaders' and 'repair the road before witnessing any major accident'.
Laishram Khulem Development Committee president Tejmani Singh said that the road has many deep potholes as it is neglected for long.
The road is too dusty during dry days which has become hazardous to health, Tejmani added.
Today being a holiday, the stir did not give much trouble to the general public, but it may give lots of inconvenience to the staff and visitors of the offices of DC Office Complex and nearby areas that includes Imphal West Employment Exchange, Excise Department, Cooperative Dept, Electricity Dept, Manipur Human Rights Commission, and Court complex Education Department etc.
