Abducted contractors remain traceless

Imphal, September 10 2012:
Even after 21 days, the whereabouts of Nameirakpam Bhomen, who had been abducted by unidentified armed miscreants at gunpoint over a monetary demand of Rs 10 lakhs on August 21 last, still remains traceless.
A resident of Laipham Khunou Mayai Leikai, Bhomen is a small time contractor.
He was reportedly abducted by unidentified armed miscreants on gunpoint over a monetary demand of Rs 10 lakhs on August 21 from near his residence.
Talking to mediapersons in this regard, family members of Bhomen said that the armed miscreants numbering around four of them came in a Maruti van and abducted him at gunpoint.
Later, the abductors informed the family members that Bhomen was in their custody and demanded Rs 10 lakhs for his release.
After this, the abductors have not made any contact.
It has been 21 days since Bhomen was abducted and the family members have no idea whether he is still alive or death.
The family members appealed to the abductors to release Bhomen on humanitarian ground in considering their suffering, specially his wife and child.
Bhomen is a married man and father of a child.
On the other hand, the whereabouts of Irungbam Irabanta of Nongdam Maning Leikai but staying in a rented house at Porompat, too has not been known after he was abducted by suspected cadres of NSCN-IM from Ukhrul area on May 27 last.
Irabanta is also a contractor who used to supply sand and stone for construction of Maphou Dam.
Though, one Winner of Ukhrul, with whom Irabanta had gone out from home on that fateful day, was subsequently arrested by Ukhrul Police and kept him under judicial remand, the whereabouts of Irabanta is still not known.
Unofficial report, however, said that Irabanta is alive in the custody of NSCN-IM.
The Naga rebel group had earlier denied involvement in the abduction.
