Imphal, September 28 2009:
If Irawat happened to be amongst us today, there would not have been such a great number of revolutionary outfits in the state, said Health and Family Welfare Minister, Ph Parijat.
He was speaking at a function held in connection with the observance of Irawat month at Kumbi bazar in Bishnupur district today.
When Irawat was alive, he tried to unite revolutionaries, he said adding that he possessed the quality of uniting by thrashing out the differences amongst groups.

Minister Parijat said, people of Manipur are suffering because of lack of worthy men who have leadership qualities.
In the present context of Manipur, a man like Irawat who can sacrifice for the people's cause is badly needed.
People of the state should not forget Irawat, he said.
When the Government of India made an attempt to amalgamate Manipur, Mizoram, Nagaland, Tripura and parts of Assam to form a new state called Purbanchal, Irawat alone objected while all other leaders of Manipur did not say anything.
The then Congress party in Manipur remained silent, he recalled.
The Minister attended the function as the chief guest.
MLA of Kumbi AC, N Mangi, member of the Wangoo Borayangbi Zilla Parishad, Loitongbam Shankar and chairperson of Kumbi Nagar Panchayat, W Yaima sat on the dais.
Earlier, before the function was opened, a life size portrait of Janneta Hijam Irawat was brought to the venue of the function in a procession from the office of the CPI, Kumbi Terakha.
March-past contingents of students and members of several civil organisations with band parties offered salute to the portrait of Irawat.
