Two persons, whom army authorities claim to be extortionists, have been apprehended from Maram and Mao areas on November 2 and October 31 respectively.
A statement issued by the PIB (DW) said troops of 22 Assam Rifles under 57 Mountain Division pulled up one Adakho from near Maram and recovered one 9 mm pistol and ammunition from his possession.
The AR troops acting promptly on specific information about extortion activity launched a well planned operation and nabbed the UG (Adakho), the PIB said adding that in another similar operation launched on October 31 by the AR unit resulted in the arrest of one Heney Tanshang from near Mao.
The captive was found carrying out extortion from trucks and an amount of Rs 20,200 has been recovered from the individual.
Informing that both have been handed over to the police along with the recovered items, the PIB further expressed that continuous pressure exerted by the Army will ensure a reduction in extortion activities along NH-39, the lifeline of Manipur.
