Imphal, November 03 2009:
The three students' organisations spearheading the class boycott agitation - AMSU, MSF, and KSA - today said that DESAM was not convening the public meeting on November 2 at BOAT to end the class boycott stir but to secure the seat of Chief Minister O Ibobi from being removed by the Centre.
A joint statement issued by the three students' bodies today asserted that since the public meeting convened by DESAM was held in collaboration with the government in order to secure the seat of O Ibobi, two-third of the participants were from the constituency of O Ibobi.
Sensing a hidden agenda of the government, the agitating students' organisations stated that the agitation needs to be intensified.
It stated that the students' bodies have participated in the talk under the Apunba Lup with the government in order to bring a solution to the
ongoing impasse.
But the government seems to invade the space of the agitating bodies by convincing them to relax their stances.
The students' bodies also said that the organisations and individuals who had participated in the meeting convened by DESAM were those who justified the killings of civilians by security forces as the ones killed were not their relatives or kin.
Stating that the proverbial 'birds of the same feather flock together' is proven right in this critical situation, the statement added it is universal that DESAM and other like-minded organisations have joined the government.
How will the people tolerate that DESAM goes together with the government now when the DGP had earlier announced to ban the organisation.
The students' bodies also stated that why those people, who said that the class boycott agitation is a lost for the society, could not suggest any other 'productive' means of agitations.
It pointed out that no school had resumed classes following the recommendations of the public meeting convened by DESAM on November 3.The schools wore more deserted look post-BOAT meeting decision.
The statement asserted that there is no misunderstanding amongst the students' bodies.
The three students' bodies have been tussling with the government.
Those who are against the class boycott agitation are excluded from the term 'we' because they are pro-government.
It added that the AMSU, MSF, and KSA are ready to face any challenge posed - it be by individuals, organisations, school owners - on the class boycott agitation.
It further contended that the continuation of fake encounter killings in the state despite the agitations is due to the existence of DESAM and like-minded organisations which encouraged the security forces to execute more such killings.
It added that the glaring example is the killing of seven persons at Andro by security forces on October 31 last.
