Imphal, April 25:
Conveying deep concern over the incident of Wungram Colony, Dimapur in which more than 50 houses were torched and over 250 residents displaced, the Naga W@tch Dog Organisation (NAW@DO) observed that the incident ought to be condemned strongly.
A statement issued by NAW@DO termed the incident very unfortunate while asserting that the incident with many political, social and economic implications was unwarranted at such a crucial juncture when the Indo-Naga peace talk is in full swing.
Saying that "a divided house cannot stand", it noted that every Naga should strive for unity and integrity so as to achieve the goals of Nagas.
Observing that the Wungram Colony was sparked by a petty, thoughtless actions of some individuals, NAW@DO lamented that the incident could have been avoided had the concerned parties resorted to constructive means.
While flaying the failure of the DAN Government to come up with any statement inspite of the gravity of the situation, it appealed to the DAN Government to take up necessary measures immediately to diffuse the situation and to restore peace and normalcy in the area.
Extending solidarity to the displaced victims, NAW@DO hailed the initiatives of the independent Naga MLAs of manipur, other civil societies, NGOs etc.
It also demanded that justice be delivered to the perpetrators in line with Naga customary law without any delay.
It further appealed to all the Nagas not to be swayed by cheap and diabolic politics which may serve as stepping stones for the opposing enemy forces both within and outside.
