Imphal, April 25:
Referring to disclosures by an underground organisation regarding involvement of four Manitron officials and its then Chairman (MLA) in the embezzlement of funds meant for modernisation of education, All Manipur Govet Higher Secondary Lecturers' Welfare Association has suggested that it would be wiser for the framed individuals to step down from their respective posts immediately.
Taking strong note of the undesired development, the Association, in a release expressed that there should be no leniency against all the guilty persons while advising the Govt to produce a white paper on the case.
reacting to news report of the said UG group exposing corrupt dealings by the Manitron officials and the MLA concerned in supplying study kits, the lecturers' body lamented that contrary to substantial funding by the Centre to lift standard of education in the State officials holding important posts had undermined significance of such academic pursuit.
The impact of such misdemeanours would be far reaching and disturbing in the long run as the teacher community had been facing inconvenience in disseminating information about information technology, observed the Association while explaining that in the absence of adequate equipment mere scribbling in the blackboards would be irrelevant to the students.
Decrying that the Association's repeated intimations and high expectations of the Government weeding out corrupt elements from State-run departments had been remaining futile it also ridiculed existence of Government agencies as corruption cases in education department are being unearthed by UG groups alone.
Reminding that the Association had already urged the Government to punish corrupt employees and officials with the regard to the ongoing exercise of detecting fake appointment case, the lecturers' body contending that only genuine teachers are made to tolerate harassments while the guilty ones are left untouched.
The Association, while calling upon the general public and student bodies to leave no stone unturned in freeing Manipuri society from the scourge of corruption, also announced its preparedness to extent all possible cooperation.
