Imphal, Aug 23:
Threatened Indigenous Peoples' Society (TIPS), manipur expressed strong annoyance against the arrest of its publicity secretary Yengkokpam Langamba alias thabi Meitei by a combined team of Imphal West police and Assam Rifles this morning.
In a statement, the rights organisation contending that Langamba had been actively involved in canvassing public support for the mass rally to denounce the August 16 attack at ISKCON which was taken out today also demanded that the security forces spell out reason why the arrest was affected before the significant protest.
TIPS also demanded that Langamba be released without any condition at the earliest.
Meanwhile, personnel of 32 AR have arrested active member of Manipur Forward Youth Front (MAFYF) Khaidem Sanjoy s/o Kh Yaiskul of Lilong Nungei Mayai Leikai and branded the youth as a UG activist, informed the organisation.
Observing that the arrest is part of AR's mischievous game to tarnish any organisation opposed to human rights violation, MAFYF warned of intense agitation in case Khaidem Sanjoy is not released unconditionally at the earliest.
It may be mentioned that Sanjoy was part of the five member MAFYF team who attempted self-immolation near the CM's official bungalow during the tumultuous agitation for scrapping of AFSPA 1958 a few years back.
On the otherhand, Lilong Local Council of Communist Party of India has claimed that Kh Sanjoy is the treasurer of the Council.
The CPI unit also demanded that AR authorities withdraw the allegation immediately.
