Armed forces have introduced a medical care scheme for ex-servicemen known as Ex-Servicemen Contributory Health Scheme (ECHS) in 2003.The scheme envisages futuristic and comprehensive medical care for pensioners and all disabled persons and also their dependants who have been boarded out of service on medical grounds with pensionary benefits.
Since its introduction in 2004 in Manipur, 362 ex-servicemen have joined the scheme so far.
As per this scheme, an ECHS member or his dependent has to come to ECHS Polyclinic located at Leimakhong whenever treatment is required.
They will be referred to MH Leimakhong if need be.
And those who cannot be treated in MH will be send to Shija Hospital or Catholic Medical Centre anf those who cannot get the required treat ment here will be sent to a suitable empanelled hospital outside the State and the cost of treatment borne by the Govt and the travel expenses refunded.
