Imphal, Jun 07:
The Naga Peoples Movement for Human Rights (NPMHR) observed World Environment Day at Senapati on June 5, according to the delayed reports recieved from NPMHR convenor Phamhring.
The convenor said that the World Environment Day was commemorated under the theme "Trees for Life Sustenance" by NPMHR and HORNBILL at Tahamzam (Senapati).
The objective is to tell the world and at the same time alert the Naga people that in our struggle for self determination we equally share the common global environmental degradation, stated Phamhring.
"Therefore, recognizing the importance of environmental conservation, sustainable and equitable development for our yet to reach goal (Naga self-rule) but being taking shape in an on-going Indo-Naga peace process, the theme is intended to shape civilization and human activity so that society, its members and its economies are able to meet their needs and explore their greatest potential in the present, while preserving bio-diversity and natural eco-systems, planning and acting for the ability to maintain global stability", added the NPMHR convenor.
He said that this challenge came about after an extensive district wise (Naga areas) study tour on environment and development being conducted since early part of Feb this year.
