A three day teachers training workshop was organised by Lions Club of Imphal East as a part of its Skills For Adolescence Programme which has been recommended by UNICEF and UNESCO under the guidelines of Lions Clubs International Foundation at Hotel Mass, Imphal from February 16 to 18.A statement issued by secretary of Lions Club of Imphal East, Dr P Rajmani informed that a thorough training was imparted to 26 teachers belonging to 17 different schools under the aegis of Certified International trainer, Mrs Ratna Choudary.
The training programme focused on moral bases educational techniques and methods while teaching adolescent students of standard VI to X, it added.
During the training programme which provided lodging facility to those with transport difficulty, a set of seven guide books was given to each of the participants.
It was also acknowledged that to implement the programme in schools 40 periods of 45 minutes each are required in an academic session.
The workshop further recommended two guide books, Changes and Challenges for students and The Surprising years for parents for prescription in schools.
The statement mentioned that the Lions Club of Imphal East would provide copies of these books to schools interested in implementation of this programme.
The workshop took serious notes of the various challenges faced by adolescent students including the rapid physical, emotional and social changes.
According to a survey conducted by India Today, 40 percent of students between the age group of 10-14 years suffer from stress and anxiety disorders besides taking to vile habits like smoking,alcohol consumption and even drugs in this transition period from childhood to adulthood.
