With the primary objective to check consumption and distribution of intoxicants during the election campaign, AMADA has set up Election Task Force.
Talking to reporters, chairman of the Task Force, Tajuddin Yumkhaibam informed that the AMADA had resolved to prohibit peddling and consuming intoxicants in the run up to the 9th Assembly elections scheduled for February 8, 15 and 23.According to resolutions adopted by AMADA if any candidate or a political worker is found supplying intoxicating substances to voters, the candidate would be boycotted besides initiating actions as per the custom of AMADA.
The voters consuming intoxicants would also be penalised.
Moreover, special drives would be launched in all the Assembly constituencies ahead of the elections.
With the approach of poll dates, there has been increase in hosting feasts, entertainment programmes and consumption of intoxicating substances, said Tajuddin while appealing to all the candidates and their workers to give hosting grand feasts and supplying drugs and liquor to the voters.
All the presidents and secretaries of political parties have been intimated of the restrictions imposed on election campaigns, said Tajuddin while appealing to the party leaders to inform their candidates of the restrictions imposed by AMADA.
