Imphal, December 30:
Naga National Party has submitted a memorandum to the Chief Election Commissioner of India urging change of schedule for the second phase polling date (February 15) of the ninth State assembly elections.
Ground cited by the political organisation for the change of schedule pertains to coincidence of the franchise day and the seed sowing Luingaini festival of the Nagas.
Pointed out that Lui-ngai-ni is a State holiday apart from being recognised as a tourism festival by the Tourism Ministry of India, the NNP representation appealed to the CEC to either prepone or postpone the second phase election by some days to enable the naga people join the celebration in a convenient manner.
