Imphal, December 30:
An emergency of the central executive committee of the All Manipur Muslims (Meitei-Pangals) Welfare Association (AMPWA) has resolved to welcome the State Policy of Reservation for all communities under OBC in Manipur.
A statement issued by AMPWA conveyed gratitude to CM O Ibobi and MOBC Minister Md Alauddin Khan for implementing the Reservation Policy with a hope of a new egalitarian society in the State.
Yet AMPWA appealed to the State Govt to conduct a detail comparative survey about the social, economic and educational status of all the four communities under OBC in Manipur, viz Meiteis, Meitei-Pangals, Nepalis and Telies so as to enable the State Govt to classify them into more backward and most backward classes.
Quoting the report on Socio-Economic Survey of Meitei Pangals (Manipuri Muslims), 2004 published by the Directorate of Economics and Statistics, AMPWA noted that the Manipuri Muslims (Meitei Pangals) are still socially, educationally and economically the most backward community in the State.
It observed that 4 per-cent reservation for the Manipuri Muslims was very low in view of the back wardness of the community.
AMPWA also condemned the kidnapping of Moheni Martin and Hriini Hubert on December 15.It appealed to all concerned to release the children without any condition on humanitarian ground.
