Coalition on Children's Right to Protection (CCRP), Manipur has called for intervention by the National Commission for Protection of Child Rights, New Delhi in the recent incidents of child right violations in two Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalas (JNVs) in Manipur.
In a memorandum, CCRP pointed out that on November 29, 2010, Master Chingakham Brington Singh (17) s/o Ch Ibohal Singh of Kakching Makha Leikai, Naodam Bazar Pareng of Thoubal district, a student of class XII committed suicide and Kshetrimayum Ghanapriya Devi (17) d/o Kh Memcha of Kakching Ningthou Leikai, Co-operative Bank Pareng, Thoubal district of the same class was under mental trauma after having been humiliated and mentally harassed by the school authorities of JNV, Umathel.
In yet another case of police brutality, students of class XI and XII of JNV, Khumbong, were allegedly canned by police in the school campus in the night of December 5 .
The two cases occurring within a week and involving two JNVs located in Manipur is an alarming trend and CCRP is unduly concerned and immediately carried out two fact finding missions, the memorandum, which also enclosed fact finding reports, said.
