In major successes agaisnt insurgents in Assam, security forces on Monday recovered an IED suspected to be meant for explosion in Guwahati while prevented another bid by the proscribed ULFA to use stolen motorcycles for explosion before Independence Day celebrations when they recovered three stolen motorcycles from an ULFA cadre in Darrang district.

Police said the bomb was supposed to be brought to the city for explosion in a market place before August 15 .
Troops of 65 Field Regiment of army's Red Horns division operating in Darrang district on Monday arrested an ULFA cadre Ajay Deka and a linkman from Mangolgoi and recovered the vehicles meant to be supplied for explosions by the rebel outfit.
Acting on a tip off, army team cordoned off a house and found three moter bikes, two mobile phones, two mobile SIM cards.
Along with Deka, army jawans arrested Ulfa linkman Faijuddin Ahmed during the operation.
Army sources said during interrogation the rebels revealed that they were supplying stolen motor bikes to other Ulfa cadres operating in Darrang and Udalguri district.
"We suspect that the two youths were planning to supply motorcycle to be used by the rebel outfit for carrying out bomb blasts ahead of the Independence Day celebrations," army sources said.
Investigation agencies probing the recent blasts in Guwahati said that Ulfa had used stolen motorcycles to carry out explosions in the city.
Army and police have stepped up combing operations against ULFA and NDFB militants active in the districts to foil any subversive activity by the outfits before August 15 .
Army's Red Horns divisions and police during a joint operation in Mangaldai apprehended another ULFA cadre Upen Sarma from Punia Village under Mangaldai police station on July 25 last.
They also recovered one unassembled IED weighing three kg along with four detonators few days back.
In Karbi Anglong district, army troops on Monday morning recovered 14 kgs of ammonium nitrate, five kgs of gelatine, 50 electronic detonators and 60 meters of safety fuse in Amtrang village under Baithalangsu police station.
Army sources said the explosives were kept in a traveller bag wrapped with a gunny bag from under a culvert.
