With financial assistance from the Department of North East Region (DONER), the North Eastern Council (NEC) is set to provide computer sets to hundred villages in the State to impart computer education.
Similarly playgrounds will also come up in select villages under NEC.
Speaking to The Sangai Express, a well placed source said that under funding from DONER, the NEC will supply computer sets to 100 selected villages to impart computer education to the youth of the rural areas of Manipur.
The decision of DONER to fund the supply of the computers was conveyed by NEC Secretary Dr Kamal Taori to Chief Minister O Ibobi and top ranking Govt officials during his current visit to the State, informed the source.
The State Planning Department has been entrusted with the task of working out the project report for the said scheme as well as to implement it.
To promote sports in the rural areas as well as to rectify the inconveniences faced by the youth of the rural areas in organising sports meet, DONER has agreed to fund the construction of play grounds in 100 villages under the NEC.
The State Government has been asked to submit its proposal in this connection, added the source.
The NEC Secretary is understood to have assured the State Govt that the Council is ready to extend all possible help to generate employment avenues for the rural youth as well as to better their economy.
Dr Taori also mooted the idea of spreading the SHG system in rural areas.
The source further said that NEC has agreed to sanction a sum of Rs 38 crores for development of Loktak Lake as well to construct the Tamenglong-Khongshang road.
