The Manipur Deaf Sports Society today hosted a historic football match between the Manipur Deaf (Hearing Impaired and Mute) Football Team and Nambul Mapal Veteran Football Team at the Sports Authority of India, Regional Centre, Takyel, Imphal.
Manipur Deaf Sports Society hosted the historic match as part of the Special Training Programme held at SAI, Sports Training Centre from November 12 last under the supervision of International footballer N Biren as chief coach.
The special training programme was organised in connection with the preparation of Manipur Football Team which will be participating in the upcoming 16th National Deaf Football Championships which is to be held at Salt Lake Stadium, Kolkata from December 20 to 24 next.
International Athete A Janeshwar assisted Biren in the special training programme.
In today's match, Manipur Deaf Football Team beat Nambul Mapal Veteran Football Team in tie break.
The match concluded in a tie with scores 6-6 for both teams in the normal time.
In the tie break, MDFT entered five balls into the net while NMVFT could entered only four balls into the net.
The society had selected 16 deaf footballers for the state team to participate in the championship.
The selected 16 footballers who took part in the special training programme were M Premjit, E Nandakumar, N Herojit, Th Ranjan and E Dhananjoy from Thoubal district, Ph Robinchandra, L Boycha and Beelu Roy Imphal East, Y Romesh, H Naobi, L Moni and L Bheigyachandra from Imphal West, Thengacha Naga from Ukhrul and James Kuki and Kaigoulen Changsen Khongsai from Senapati.
The team will leave Imphal for Kolkata on December 18 next.
