Imphal, March 28:
Holding the Secular Progressive Front (SPF) Government squarely responsible for the atrocities being committed by security personnel on the people of the State, Manipur Forward Youth Front (MAFYF) has threatened to boycott the candidates of the ruling partners of SPF coalition Government in the coming Lok Sabha election if a Cabinet meeting is not convened within 48 hours to review imposition of disturbed area status on the whole of Manipur.
In a statement today, MAFYF secretary Samananda Meitei charged the Government with playing with the sentiments of the people.
Though the parties in power have assured the people that imposition of Disturbed Area status on the whole of Manipur would be reviewed and Armed Forces Special Power Act, 1958 would be lifted time and again; they have always sidelined the issue once assuming power.
When the election time is here once again, it should not be wasted by the people and let the political parties to know that they could not fool the people any more, MAFYF secretary demanding that a Cabinet meeting should be convened within 48 hours to review the decision of declaring the whole of Manipur as a 'Disturbed Area'.
Ministers and MLAs should not remain indifferent to the public outcry against the excesses being committed by security personnel on the people thinking that it does not affect any of their family members, Samananda observed.
Pointing out that the main duty of a responsible Government is to make the life of its people secure and happy, MAFYF maintained that the-reign of terror being unleashed by security personnel on the people of the State could be stopped by CPI and Congress, the two constituents of the ruling SPF Government.
MAFYF also condemned the attempt made by security personnel to pick up its president Kangleipal, from his house at night and the threat given to his family members if they felt to hand over Kangleipal.
