Imphal, March 28:
The All Manipur Football Association (AMFA) pointing out misinformation contained in the souvenir published on the occasion of the 2nd Dr T Ao football tournament described the error as unwanted particularly as it has been published by an academic institute like SAI.
The wrong information regarding formation of FIFA and on studs of the boots can be found in the souvenir under the title "The Lesser Known Facts of Soccer" by Senior Scientific Officer (Sports Medicine) of SAI, New Delhi Dr PSM Chandran, said an AMFA statement released by the secretary A Borchand Singh.
The statement countered that FIFA was riot formed in 1930 as mentioned in the souvenir but was established in 1904.Stating there are three types of 'studs' used in the game of football, AMFA claimed that there are no such specifications and as per the Amendments to the Laws of the Game in 1989 only the term footwear has been used.
It means that players may use non-studded shoes provided they are not dangerous to the players, asserted the release while adding that "it will be utterly wrong if we again say that studs, if present, must be round only".
