Even as a new post of the 7 Sikh Light Infantry has come up at Serou in Thoubal district following the opening of a new Army Brigade at Chakpikarong, charge sheets have been filed against two jawans of the regiment for misbehaving with two young housewives recently.
Talking to the media at the new post today, its commander, Captain Sarin, said that no efforts would be spared to make the jawans realise of the need to work in close rapport with the local populace and to respect their sentiments.
Elaborating, the Captain said that the two jawans have apologized for their misconduct and added that fitting punishment would be awarded to the erring jawans.
Earlier interacting with the media persons, the villagers said that they were at first pleased with the arrival of the security personnel.
However as two jawans of the regiment misbehaved with two women, the meira paibis raised a hue and cry and strongly lodged a protest with the CO of 7 SIKLI.
The meira paibis were also ready to launch an agitation, they said.
However Captain Sarin arrived at the spot and after apologizing to the people, going door to door, and assuring the people that fitting action would be taken up against the erring jawans, the meira paibis were placated, said the villagers.
At present the security personnel are occupying the Practical Junior High School.
