Imphal, February 24:
While welcoming the Rationalisation policy of the Government which intends to address the problem of shortage of teachers in some schools by transferring teachers from those schools which have excess number of teachers, All Manipur Students Union (AMSU) has pointed out the need to review the policy in the light of many irregularities that have surfaced.
Although the idea of rationalising teachers is a welcome step, there is the urgent need to reconsider the whole process by conducting a detailed survey and taking into account the service records of the teachers so that there is no room for any discontentment among the teachers, secretary general of the students body Mayengbam Chourajit Singh said in a statement.
The State Government should have the foresight in formulating such a policy and taking recourse to hasty decision will only negate the very purpose of formulating the policy, which is to produce qualified students, he added.
Meanwhile, AMSU has called a joint meeting of all the student leaders elected from various educational institutions for the session 2004-05 at its office head office on February 27.
