Iron lady of Manipur Nameirakpam Kunjarani was among the players and officials who were honoured with incentives and gifts on the ocassion of Shannaroisinggee Numit (Players' Day) observed at Khuman Lampak main stadium today.
The players and officials were honoured at a solenm function held at Khuman Lampak with commerce and industries minister N Mangi as chief guest and sports minister K Govindas as functional president.
The observation was attended by galaxy of sportpersons and sports officials (coaches) of Manipur.
The obeservation was organised by youth affairs and sports department of Manipur.
The annual Sannaroishingee Numit is observed on February 25 to celebrate Manipur's finest hour in their sports history - winning the Raja Bhalendra Singh Trophy (best team) at the 1999 Games.
The observation begun from the following year.
This year, 45 international and 591 national players, 116 coaches in miscellaneous categories were felicitated at the function.
They were presented with citations and tracksuits.
Kumari Nameirakpam Kunjarani who represented India in the Athens Olympics stood fourth position in weighlifting was felicitated with a cash award of Rs 1 lakh .
The award was recieved by Kunjarani's father as she is currently engaged in personal job outside the state.
N Kunjarani who is now working in CRPF at the rank of assistant commandant took the oath of players on the opening ceremony of 1999 Games held at Imphal.
N Sanamacha Chanu who also represented India in the Athens Olympics was omitted from the lists of this year's international achiever (of Manipur) as she was found positive in the dope case.
Last year, world champion MC Mary Kom and L Sarita Devi, gold medallist at the second Asian women's boxing championship in Hissar in November, 2003 were honoured with Rs 1 lac each on the ocassion of Players' Day.
