A sum of Rs 3.40 lakhs would be kept in fixed deposit under the life insurance policy of State Bank of India in the name of Russel, the surviving son of Rabina, who was killed in the July 23 Khwairamband Bazar incident, the JAC formed in protest against the killing has announced today.
Addressing a press conference at the Lamshang residence of late Rabina today afternoon, co-convenor of the JAC Nongleima Devi informed that the State Government had given an ex-gratia amount of Rs 1 lakh only.
However, in consideration of the future of young Russel, JAC had asked Rs 4 lakhs more from the State Government.
The said Rs 4 lakhs had not been asked in bargain for the human lives lost, the co-convenor explained, adding that the remaining Rs 60 thousand would be used in paying off the debt incurred during the course of agitation.
The JAC had taken the amount in consideration of the child's future and it has no connection with the Apunba Lup, Nongleima clarified.
She further informed that excluding the ex-gratia amount of Rs 1 lakh, which has already been given, Rs 4 lakhs is still in the possession of Lamshang Assembly Constituency, MLA W Brajabidhu.
Out of this amount, Rs 3.40 lakhs would be fix-deposited in the name of Russel in SBI on coming Monday, Nongleima added.
