Imphal, April 17 2010:
Several fuel outlets in the capital districts have ceased service citing shortage of diesel/petrol in the wake of the ongoing economic blockade being enforced by the All Naga Students' Association, manipur (ANSAM) for over a week now.
Owing to the agitation, over 170 goods laden vehicles including oil tankers are reportedly stranded near Khuzama Gate of Nagaland awaiting security escort.
The student body launched the agitation demanding that State Govt nullify the ADC (Amendment) Act 2008 .
While in the first phase agitation the blockade sponsors had prohibited ferrying of goods, the second phase effective from April 17 midnight covers even passenger carriers.
Amid claims by security force authorities that adequate security steps have been taken up to facilitate smooth traffic flow along the National Highways there is no sign of vehicular movement.
Consequent to the agitation effective service of oil tanker operators, black marketers have surfaced at many points of the capital city wherein price of a litre of petrol cost Rs 70 .
A police officer posted in Senapati district said over 170 trucks currently stranded at Khuzama Gate would be escorted to Imphal very soon.
