The State Govt is doing everything within its means to set up a full fledged Govt college in all the Dist HQs of the State for the benefit of the people residing in the remote areas of the State, said Chief Minister O Ibobi.
Speaking as the chief guest at the inaugural function of the Nambol S Kula Women College's indoor stadium, Ibobi said that the education system in the State has deteriorated during the last five/ten years and both the teachers as well as the students were to blame for the debacle.
Stating that the standard in the Govt Schools have really gone down compared with the private schools, Ibobi said that the State Govt is working out ways to bring forward a policy mechanism for providing equal facilities to both teachers of the Govt schools and private Schools.
Commenting on the College's Employees Welfare Assn's demand for converting the college into a full fledged Govt college, he said that the Govt has taken the matter very seriously and would take a decision on the matter after a thorough discussion as history has shown that many private colleges which had prospered while in the hands of private individuals being reduced to nothing after being converted to a full fledged Govt college.
He also said that mind set of the people has to change before the Govt starts converting the private colleges into a full fledged Govt college.
Chief Minister also donated a sum of Rs 50,000 from his discretionary fund to the college authorities.
Stating that quality education would never be com- promised under any circumstances, Education Minister Francis Nagjokpa, who was president of the function said that it would be impossible to usher in quality education in the State if the teachers engaged themselves in contract works and the students go out on to the streets protesting every now and then.
