Imphal, November 05:
Zeliangrong Union, Zeliangrong Youth Front (Assam, Manipur and Nagaland) and Zeliangrong Students Union, Tamenglong district have drawn the attention of the Governor towards lack of civic amenities like health, transport, communication, education and administrative lapses in Tamenglong district.
The three apex social organizations of Zeliangrong community submitted a memorandum jointly to Governor Dr SS Sidhu during his visit to the district today.
The memorandum asserted that successive Governments in Manipur have shown indifferent attitude towards the difficulties being faced by the people in matter of health, transport, communication, education, administration, etc.
Despite the World Health Organization slogan declaring Health for all by 2000 AD, this part of the State is left out in the lurch for the people to continue their suffering due to non-availability of doctors, medicines and other health care related infrastructures, the memorandum said.
Stating that transport and communication in the district solely depend on road transport, the memorandum pointed out that the 39-km stretch distance of the district headquarters road from Khongsang to Tamenglong is in a deplorable condition requiring major repairing works.
The memorandum demanded immediate handing over to BRTF for taking up the repairing works of the road.
Improvement of telephone exchange service in Tamenglong district is also required immediately as roads are very often blocked by frequent landslides during raining season, the memo further noted.
In the domain of education, the memorandum demanded that the problem of shortage of teachers in educational institutions of the district should be address immediately.
The memorandum also urged for construction of a JNV School at a permanent site besides completion of the long-pending Tribal Residential School at Tamenglong HQs.
Lack of adequate water and power supply is another problem being faced by the people, the memorandum pointed out, while demanding commissioning of the water supply project for Tamenglong district for which Rs 5 crores have already been sanctioned un- der NLCPR and construction of the 132 KV power station at Rengpang and sub-stations at Noney, Tamei and Tousem.
