The mega-sporting event of the Western Angami Sports Association, WASA, has kicked off amidst much fanfare with the Nagaland Speaker Kiyaneilie Peseyie opening it here on Friday.
Large number of athletes under four contingents has turned up to vie various disciplines in these two-day premier sporting event of the WASA.
Buoyed by the successful host of the event, the Speaker told the players to maintain the spirit of sportsmanship with high degree of discipline, without which, he further explained, sports had no meaning.
Peseyie said the Naga players had the potential to compete with other players and further assured he would construct rostrum here at the Sechu Ground.
Earlier, the Speaker took the salutes given by the participating contingents and also gave Rs 50,000 (fifty thousand) towards the fund of the WASA.
Large number of Angami public leaders, Village GBs, present and past student leaders, officers and also paramilitary officials attended the inaugural function, which was also marked with colorful traditional folk songs, and exciting skit presented by villagers and village school children.
Sato Sechu, WASA president, chaired the function while T Husie Lhousa, WASA adviser, delivered welcome address.
Mr and Mrs Lhusarovi, Mr and Mrs Vizovoto Nagi, Dr and Dr (Mrs) Zase Chusi, Mr and Mrs Neithoselie Mor, Mr and Mrs Rokovikho Hesielie and Mr and Mrs Thepfusato, all from Western Angami area, are the main sponsors of prizes of various disciplines.
