Imphal, February 16:
Six political workers of MSCP candidate in Wangoi Assembly Constituency Yumnam Mani had a narrow escape when unidentified persons opened fire at them at Utlou Makha Leikai area today.
The incident is informed to have taken place at around 12.30 pm when the six were returning from Moirang side and passing through Nambol-Hiyangthang road.
Detailing the incident, the fortunate six said their Maruti Gypsy (MN1A/4699) was stopped by about 3/4 youths near a culvert in Utlou Makha Leikai but taking no chances they accelerated resulting in the unidentified persons firing some 4/5 rounds at their direction.
However, none suffered injury of any kind.
Condemning the attack, Y Mani disclosed to The Sangai Express that suspected supporters of a rival candidate had been constantly issuing threat to him thereby restricting his free movement.
Recalling another case, Mani said on the eve of second phase polling miscreants who came in two vehicles fired several rounds at his Yumnam Huidrom residence thereby creating fear psychosis among his workers.
Even though no one was injured in the said incident, bullets fired by the attackers damaged the roof of his house besides smashing lighting system near his gate, Mani added.
He also contended that repeated intimation to the Government for strengthening his security escort from the current number of six personnel had gone unheeded due to discriminatory attitude of the Congress-led Government.
