Imphal, March 15 2011:
Decrying the alleged indifferent attitude of Deputy Commissioner of Senapati district to the ongoing Census 2011 operation in the district, the Committee on 2011 Census on Naga People's Organisation (NPO) has demanded the authority concerned to look into the matter immediately.
In a statement, chairman of the Committee ML Markson alleged that the Deputy Commissioner has been insisting on percentage growth rather than actual growth of the population in Senapati district.
Recalling an earlier meeting with Central team on February 12, 2011 where NPO and its Census Committee were assured of inclusion of all omitted/deleted informations or villages in respect of three sub-divisions of the district, the Chairman rued still then the Deputy Commissioner has not been ordering the respective SDO/Charge officer to maintain only some percentage without acknowledging the rapid population growth in the district.
Pointing out that the three sub-divisions of Mao-Maram, Paomata and Purul have remained unaccounted for a decade during which no positive political, economic and social benefits have been granted following the cancellation of 2001 census, the Committee has appealed to the authority concerned to urgently look into the matter and warned that it would not compromise with illegal cancellation of the population growth.
It has also demanded the Deputy Commissioner to withdrawal all forms of orders and activities to discourage the actual population count but to co-operate with the ongoing Census Operation in the greater interest of the people of Senapati district.
