Imphal, December 08 2009:
A new building of a UJB school constructed by DRDA Senapati under Multi Sectorial Development Programme at Mapao Khullen was inaugurated today by Saikul A/C MLA Doukhomang Khongsai.
The inaugural function of Mapao Khullen UJB School building under Saikul Block was presided by Senapati Deputy Commissioner Nidhi Kesarwani.
The school has 152 students against 15 teachers.
Of these, only two teachers are Government teachers while the rest were appointed by the school management committee.
Though the school building has been constructed, there is no furniture.
Highlighting this problem, the village authority chairman submitted a memorandum to the MLA appealing for fund to buy the required furniture ahead of the commencement of next academic session.
The memorandum also sought necessary fund for repairing of the older school building and also to build four latrines.
Speaking at the occasion, Doukhomang Khongsai expressed happiness on seeing the newly constructed school building.
He suggested that all the requirements of the school should be fulfilled one by one.
The Naga-Kuki clash was a shameful episode, he remarked while calling upon all communities to promote peaceful coexistence and to pursue development programmes jointly with the Government.
Talking about the prolonged delay in holding elections to Autonomous District Councils, Doukhomang asserted that the former MLAs were working to put off District Council elections with a view to concentrate power in their hands.
But subsequent upon the joint effort of the 20 MLAs of hill districts, District Council elections will be held and power decentralisation will be effected, Doukhomang said.
