Following the instruction of the Medical Council of India (MCI), necessary measures have been taken up to commence functioning of the Jawaharlal Nehru Institute of Medical Sciences (JNMS) from the next academic session, director of the Institute Dr AD has stated.
The Institute would start off with the three basic departments of any medical college namely Anatomy, Biochemistry and Physiology, the director informed, adding that the required teaching staff of the three departments too have been appointed.
He further disclosed in Anatomy Department, one professor and three assistant professors have been appointed, one professor and one assistant professor in Biochemistry Department and one professor and three assistant professors in Physiology Department.
Furthermore, one professor and three assistant professors are already there in Medicine Department, one professor and three assistant professors in Surgery Department and one professor in Gynae Department.
In Pharmacology Department too, one professor and one assistant professor have already been appointed.
Similarly, one assistant professor each have also been appointed in the Community Medicine Department and Forensic Department respectively.
So, at present the total strength of professors and assistant professors in JNIMS inclusive of those in the ENT and Ortho Department is around 90.Dr AD Singh informed.
Furthermore, Dr AD informed that the OPDs of Medicine, Surgery, Gynae, Orthopedic and Paediatrics have been shifted to the newly constructed OPD block.
An official team of MCI which had come for inspection earlier had reportedly pointed out that there were not enough space for OPDs of these five major departments.
With shifting of the OPDs of these five major departments to the newly constructed OPD block, there would be no problem of space, the director added.
As for the Medical Record Department, which is also a major department, works on computerising the department is on full swing and it would be completed very soon, the director assured, adding that all informations related to the daily budget of the hospital, number of patients admitted and discharged, number of teaching and non-teaching staff and the number of patients who are operated on may be known from the Medical Record Department.
Development of physical infrastructures of JNIMS too has been stepped up and proper attention is being made to look after all its needs, Dr AD said, while expressing optimism that all these arrangements would be to the satisfaction of the MCI team which is supposed to come for inspection to find out whether the letter of intent could be given or not.
Earlier, the MCI team was expected to arrive before December 9 .
However, since it would be a surprise visit, nothing could be said when the team would land up though it is sure that it would be during the current month, Dr AD added.
