Being organised every year without a break since 2000, the 7th edition of the much awaited Rupmahal Artistes' Memorial Drama Festival, 2006 would commence from December 4.
In all 13 theatre units would be participating in this time vying for 18 different awards.
Over and above the awards which comprise of citation and memento, the total prize money of these awards donated by surviving families of many late artistes is Rs 18,000.There would be one show each starting from 4 pm on all days of the festival which would continue till December 21.The festival would be inaugurated with staging of the play entitled, Mithinggai Amagi Mishi of Aryan Theatre at 4 pm on December 4.
Other theatre units and the names of the plays to be performed during the festival are Makar of Roopalaya on December 5, Lammeigi Tangoi of Eastern Manipur Artistes' Association on December 6, Eitagi Iralni of Citizens' Club Drama Unit on December 7, Hanubagi Heikol of Pangalba Immortal Theatre on December 8, Manja Nangbu Loyumba of Ougri Theatre Repertory on December 11, Rajkumari Houseki Tamnalai of Lilong Youth Dramatic Union on December 13, Nungshiba Thiba of Meitei Artistes' Union on December 14, Hajillaklaba Lichat of Orient Dramatic Union on December 15, Shambal of Loyalam Arts and Cultural Institute on December 18, Seidangbira of Langmeidong Dramatic Union on December 19 and Shap Natte Laigi of Leimarol Arts Centre on December 20 and Atoomba Meigi Ching of Elite Group of Performing Arts which would be performed as the last play of the festival.
Selection of the prize winning plays of the festival would be done by a panel of jury, but the prizes would be distributed on the occasion of 63rd foundation day of Rupmahal which falls on December 23.The Meitram Bira Memorial Award, 2006 comprising of Rs 5000 in cash and a citation and shawl given to a noted theatre personality would also be presented at the occasion.
The award is donated in memory of late Meitram Bira, a noted artiste of Rupamahal his family members.
The award was instituted in 1991.
