Imphal, October 01:
Hunger striker Iron Sharmila Chanu has been released by the Court today, but she continued her fast.
Having found that she had taken out the nasal fee-ding tube and fearing that her health might deteriorate, the police picked and put her at JN Hospital Security ward again.
Earlier in the day, Judicial Magistrate Ist Class, Imphal East released Sharmila on the ground that she had already completed her stay in the judicial custody for one year.
This is the fourth such order releasing Sharmila since she began her fast unto death agitation in November 2000 demanding repeal of the repressive Armed Forces Special Powers Act.
The Court set her on liberty after acquitting all the charges levelled against her and other legal liabilities of such charges.
On receiving the Courts order, the Jail authority released Sharmila from JN Hospital ward at around 4 pm.
She then took out the nasal food pipe and staged a protest at a meira paibi shed near her Kongpal Kongkham Leikai residence.
Later Imphal East Police picked up her on health ground and put her at the same room in the security ward of the JN Hospital.
Talking to mediapersons, Sharmila resolutely stated that she would continue her agitation until and unless the Act has been lifted from the entire State.
