Imphal, July 18:
L Ibomcha, vice president Manipuri Students' Federation (MSF) has today warned it would launch various forms of agitation defying the curfew restrictions if the authorities concerned does not lift curfew within the next twenty four hours from Greater Imphal.
Speaking at a press conference at Gambhir Singh Shopping Arcade this afternoon, MSF vice president L Ibomcha said that prolonged imposition of curfew in the Greater Imphal Areas has seriously affected the life of the general public who are on the verge of starvation.
Appealing to the shopkeepers as well as the businessmen not to take advantage of the situation and increase the prices of essential commodities, Ibomcha also warned it would take stern action against anyone found hiking the prices of essential commodities and food stuff.
Ibomcha also asserted that the Central security forces have been unleashing a reign of terror in the State behind the immunity granted by the Armed Forces Special Powers Act and added that MSF will support any agitation taken up by the 33 voluntary organizations spearheading the agitation against the killing of Manorama.
MSF former president Ph Nando who also spoke at the press conference questioned why Chief Minister O Ibobi was taking so long to punish the guilty AR personnel involved in the brutal murder.
He further opined that the CM should hand over his powers to the AR authorities if he cannot perform his duties efficiently.
Coming down heavily on the CM, Nando said that the CM was making a grave mistake in trying to suppress the people's movement by unleashing the State security personnel instead of punishing the guilty AR personnel.
He also said that the CM's order for a judicial inquiry to probe into the circumstances leading to the death of Manorama was nothing but an attempt to hoodwink the public and cover the inhuman deeds of the AR personnel.
Mention may be made here that indefinite curfew v.as imposed in the Greater Imphal Areas by the concerned DC to control the escalating tension that was brewing among the people following the brutal murder of Thangjam Manoram by AR personnel.
