Several student, women and voluntary organization continue to express strong condemnation over the extra-judicial killing of Thangjam Manorama Devi of Bamon Kampu by 17 Assam Rifles personnel as well as against the State Government's failure to book and punish the offenders.
All Manipur Students' Union (AMSU) has come out strongly against the excesses being committed by security personnel on the people of Manipur with impunity under the shield of black laws like Armed Forces Special Power Act.
In the same breathe, the student body also accused the Congress led UPA coalition Government at the Centre and the State Government of trying to muffle the angry voice of the people.
Efforts being made by the UPA Government for repealing POTA is ridiculous while all sort of black laws are being imposed on the people of North Eastern States and giving free hand to security personnel in killing innocent people, an AMSU statement said.
Strongly condemning the senseless and brutal killing of Th Manorama by 17 AR personnel Kakhulong Youths' Committee and Kakhulong Women�s Society expressed grave concern at the repeated human rights abuse by the armed force personnel.
The bodies also lambasted the State Government for its failure to book and punish the guilty personnel till date and demanded that no effort be spared in teaching the arrogant security men a fitting lesson.
Against our desire for a peaceful and prosperous Manipur whose people have had enough of killing security force going berserk has contributed enormously to the situation going' from bad to worse, lamented the bodies in a joint statement.
Tangkham Awang Leikai Women Association while strongly condemning the brutal murder of Manorama has appealed to the authorities concerned to look into the matter and punish the guilty personnel immediately.
