Imphal, July 29:
NCP State unit president Radhabinod Koijam has demanded revocation of theHome Department order for suspension of the escort party of MLA Salam O Joy in connection with the recent incident of snatching the service weapons by unidentified persons after overpowering them and restoration of the escorts of the MLA immediately.
Addressing at a function organised by the State unit of the Nationalist Congress Party at the party office at Thangmeiband Kabrambam Leikai in honour of Salam Joy on his recent appointment as the general secretary of the All India Nationalist Youth Congress, Radhabinod said his party strongly condemned the immature and prejudicious remarks made by the Director General of Police Y Joykumar in connection with the incident even before submission of the report of the investigation.
The remarks of the DGP is detrimental to the privilege of the MLA and there is no reason why the party should not initiate legal action against the irresponsible police officer, he said.
There has been not a single case which has been resolved satisfactorily by the State Police Department which is set up as a part of the Indian Police establishment.
This is really unfortunate, Radhabinod said.
The Gypsy used by the unidentified persons at the time of snatching the weapons from the escort party of MLA Salam Joy was alleged to have been hijacked from an ex-Minister few days earlier.
But nothing had been heard on whether the police had conducted an investigation into the incident or not, he said, while demanding an explanation in this regard.
Drawing the attention of Chief Minister O Ibobi Singh, who is also in charge of the Home Department for reinstatement of escorts of MLA Joy, Radhabinod informed the matter would be taken up for discussion with the Chief Minister on July 30 at the party level.
Speaking on the prevailing political scenario, he maintained that lot of changes has taken place in the party politics with instances of complete disregard of the laid down political ideologies over the last few years.
This is not a welcome development, he said.
Congratulating Joy on his appointment as the general secretary of All India Youth Nationalist Congress party, the State unit party president said it is an invitation to the youths of Manipur for participation in the political activism of the country.
National Council member of NCP Laisom Lalit graced the reception as functional president while MLA Nandakishore and MLA Doukhomang Khongsai as guests of honour.
A large number of party members and workers including that of its Youth and Women Front were also present at the occasion.
Meanwhile, sit-in-protest demonstration continued to be staged at different parts of Wangoi Assembly Constituency today in condemnation of the incident of snatching weapons from the escort party of MLA Salam Joy.
