Imphal, December 28 2009:
About three lakhs Airtel prepaid subscribers in the State of Manipur have been affected following the closure of Airtel outlets in Imphal on Monday.
Following the abduction of their employees, a total of about eight Airtel outlets in Imphal have been closed down on Monday.
The closure of the outlets has led several inconveniences to the Airtel prepaid subscribers thereby incurring the problem of scarce availability of the recharge coupons.
When NNN interviewed one of the customer care centres of the other mobile phone service providers, they informed that the application of new connections has been increased since two days.
Some of the Airtel subscribers while interacting with NNN informed that if such situation persists then they would switch over to alternate connections.
It is worth mentioning that the two employees of the mobile phone service providers, Airtel, Kh Joychandra (48) (Manager Click Communication), and Th Oken (33) (Field Sales Executive) were abducted allegedly by a UG group demanding a ransom for Rs 1 crore.
Th Oken (33) (Field Sales Executive) had managed to escape from the clutches of the abductors on Sunday and subsequently rescued by the police while the security forces were conducting search operation in Senapati district on Sunday.
However, Kh Joychandra (48) (Manager Click Communication), is still under the captive of the abductors.
