Imphal, September 15, 2009:
Demanding that the State Government order for holding fresh DPC to recruit primary teachers for schools under the six Autonomous District Councils (ADCs) be revoked within three days, JAC for 2006 ADC Teachers Appointed Parents & Guardians, Manipur has threatened that failure to honour the demand would compel the JAC to resort to various forms of agitation.
In setting the deadline, the JAC said in case there is no positive response to its demand, a 24 hour general strike would be imposed throughout the state from September 19 midnight, which will be followed by indefinite economic blockade of National Highways 39 & 53 from midnight of September 21. Reminding that 835 candidates were already appointed as primary teachers through DPCs conducted in the six ADCs in 2006, the JAC has submitted a memorandum to the Chief Minister questioning intention of the State Government in ordering fresh DPC.
Moreover, a case is pending on the issue in the Gauhati High Court and the recent order challenges sanctity of the Court, the JAC mentioned while adding that besides discharging their duties as teachers, the 835 individuals were already engaged in election duties.
If the appointment of 835 teachers of 2006 are in excess, it was no fault of the teachers.
Rather it is the Govt that committed the mistake and as such the teachers should not be made scapegoats, the JAC expressed.
