Expressing concern over the possibility of food scarcity in the State in view of the extent of devastation to food crops in the flood, MLA of Khurai A/C has suggested that the Government should taking up necessary measures in time for procuring food grain from other States.
Talking to mediapersons after an inspection tour of the flood affected areas of his Constituency, Dr Bijoy pointed out that out of the total requirement of 5 metric tonne of food grain annually, the State has been able to produced only 2.5 metric tonne.
So every year, food grain has to be exported from other States to meet the demand of the people.
However, after the devastation caused to the paddy field by the flood, there is the apprehension of shortage of food grain this year.
So the Government should take up necessary precautionary measures and stock up the required food grain in time, he said.
While inspecting the flood affected areas of Kha-beisoi, Khomidok, Khurai Chingangbam Leikai, the MLA also distributed rice and other relief materials to the people.
He also assured more assistance to the flood affected people in the days to come.
On the other hand, breaching of the embankment of the swollen Lilong Turel Ahanbi near Kaleikhong leading to flooding of the low lying areas has been controlled by the collective effort of the local residents today morning.
MLA of Lilong A/C Md Hellaluddin and Deputy Commissioner of Thoubal district who inspected the flood affected area today distributed rice to the people.
Each of the households were provided with 10 kgs of rice.
The rice was issued by the Government.
