Zeliangrong Students� Union, Manipur (ZSUM) has suspended its ongoing agitation of picketing Government offices with effect from today following the assurance given by the Governor to look after its grievances.
The decision to call off the agitation was arrived at after a joint meeting of the representatives of the student body and the Governor at the latter�s office chamber at around 12.30 pm today.
Along with giving an �acceptable assurance�, the Governor reportedly told the student leaders not to worry as he understands their problem.
The Governor also assured that he would �pressurise upon the State Government and something will happen�.
ZSUM has been demanding implementation of the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signed with the State Government on May 25 this year with regard to taking up the pending works of construction of the roads in Tamenglong district, particularly Tamenglong-Tousem-Haflong Road, New-Kaiphundai-Tousem Road, Tamenglong-Tamei Road and Tamei-Taning Road as well as commencement on the construction work of Loktak Downstream Hydro-Electricity Project.
The student body has also been urging the Govt to hand over the task of construction of the roads to BRO/BRTF.
