Imphal, September 07, 2010:
The UKLF has denied involvement in the abduction of PHED SE L Somikanta who has been subsequently freed.
Incidentally, the UKLF is a signatory of the SoO pact.
Speaking to media persons today, UKLF information and publicity secretary JM Zou, quoting some information received from PHE Department, said that the people have a misconception about involvement of the party in the abduction of SE Somikanta.
However, the party has been strictly abiding by ground rules since it entered into SoO pact since August 2, 2008. Since then, the party was never involved in any case of extortion or abduction.
Appealing to all concerned to shed all mis-conceptions about UKLF, JM Zou said early by saying 'U' only the UKLF was known in the hills just as the UNLF is known by the same letter in the valley.
But after UKLF entered into SoO pact, many other organisations which sounded or spelled similar to the outfit's name such as KNLF, UKNLF, ULF, UTLA, UKLA (MC) etc have sprung up.
Causing harassments and anxiety to family members by holding officials hostage is unacceptable to the party on the ground of humanity, JM Zou said.
If any group was involved in abduction of people and keeping them as hostage for ransom, the groups concerned should own their act and explain to the public.
JM Zou appealed to the public to turn their criticism and wrath against those involved in abduction cases instead of viewing the UKLF with suspicion.
