Imphal, October 06:
Reacting to the statement of the Naga Peoples Organisation as published on September 29 in some sections of media, the Kuki National Front has denied any role whatsoever in the construction of houses at the 'unused Government land' near the cattle farm of Kangpokpi by the victims of the communal clash between Kukis and Nagas in early 90's.A statement issued by the Information and Publicity secretary LH Stephen of the outfit, observed that the Kuki families who had built their temporary homes at the area were those who took shelter in the agricultural farm of Kangpokpi after their houses were razed to ground and driven out by NSCN (IM) during the Kuki-Naga clash in 1992/93.However, following the decision of the State Government to build office complex in the agricultural farm area, the Kuki families were evicted.
Left with no other place to settle themselves, the displaced villagers shifted to the cattle farm area which was no longer functional then, it said.
The statement noted that it was the duty of the State Government to ensure that the displaced villagers were properly resettled.
Asserting that the cattle farm area of Kangpokpi where some houses were constructed belongs to the State Government, KNF observed that the Nagas had no right to interfere in the matter.
Further warning the NPO not to publish baseless allegations, KNF reminded that this people who have been taking shelter at the area were the victims of the brutality of Nagas led by NSCN (IM).
It cautioned that the undue interference on communal line in such non-issue can ignite communal tension which has cooled down after long years of turmoil.
