Aggrieved over the failure of the Government to take up some concrete measures in connection problem being faced by the electricity consumers of Khurai Chingangbam Leikai, Khurai Thoudam Leikai, Khurai Sajor Leikai and Khurai Puthiba Leikai following frequent break down of the transformer 750 KV at Khurai Lamlong Bazar, a Wakat Meepham was staged at Khurai Lamlong today.
The aggrieved electricity consumers of the area have also warned of taking up other intense form of agitation including road blockade if the Government remains indifferent to their plight even after the after the Wakat Meepham.
The Wakat Meepham was organised under the aegis of Joint Action Committee for Installation of New Transformer at Khurai Lamlong Keithel.
Talking to mediapersons at the site of the protest demonstration, vice president of the JAC A Sushilkumar said consumers of the area have been suffering lots of inconveniences following its breakdown of the transformer four times within the span of last 10 months.
It is the right of the consumers to get electricity supply regularly and the Government should ensure it.
However, the consumers of the area have been denied this right.
The latest break down of the transformer occurred on September 5 and since then the people of the area have not been getting electricity supply till date.
Sushilkumar further said that the JAC would be filling a public interest litigation (PIL) case against the department concerned to ensure that the rights to life guaranteed in Article 21 of the Indian Constitution is not denied to the people of the area.
If the Government fails to install a new transformer at the earliest possible, the JAC would be constraint to take up other intense agitations including road blockade along Imphal-Ukhrul, Tinsid and Ayangpalli Road with effect from October 9, Sushilkumar announced.
He further made it clear that no vehicular movement would be allowed along these roads during the agitation.
However, vehicular movements related to medical and education would be exempted from the purview of the proposed agitation.
After the transformer broke down on September 5, the JAC was reported constituted on September 28 and subsequently approach the authorities concerned including the Power Minister to install a new transformer within October 5.The JAC had even reportedly volunteered to cough up the required amount for the installation.
But as the plea of the JAC has not been hinted, the JAC has been compelled to take recourse to agitational move.
The JAC would continue to launch various movements including imposition of general strike, the JAC representatives added.
