All Manipur Anti-Drug Association (AMADA) has destroyed drugs and other intoxicants worth Rs 33,13,73,634 that were seized during its anti-drug drive from December 21, 2009 to June 20 this year.
Addressing a press conference in this regard today at its head office here, AMADA secretary organisation K Meghachandra said since it came into existence on December 20, 2005, AMADA has been bringing out a report on its activities after every six months.
So, during the period from December 21, 2009 to June 20 this year, a large quantity of drugs and intoxicants seized from different places have been destroyed and 253 people who were peddling in drugs and other intoxicants like alcohol have been rounded up.
Together with these rounded up peddlers, 159 drug abusers handed over to AMADA have been given proper advice, Meghachandra said.
During the same period, four new local councils of AMADA have also been set up, he informed, adding that that so far AMADA has set up a total of 127 local councils and units in different parts of the State.
Of the biggest and most successful drive launched during this period, AMADA joined hands with Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB), 23 Assam Rifles and Litan Police in destroying Poppy plantation spreading over an area of 500 acres along Mapithel Range in Ukhrul district.
The quantity of the Poppy plants destroyed in the drive was around 11,000 kgs.
One kg of Poppy plant cost around 30,000 in the market.
So, the destroyed Poppy plants would fetch around Rs 33 crores.
During the same period, drug items line locally brewed wine, liquor, No.4, SP tablets, Khaini, Talab, Dendrite, Recodex, etc have also been seized and destroyed, he added.
